New World Wine Awards success for Caythorpe Family Estate Chardonnay
An expert panel of independent wine judges recently tasted and debated over 1,200 different wines from 130 wineries in the 2023 New World Wine Awards, the 21st edition of this highly regarded consumer-focused wine competition.
We are thrilled to announce that our 2021 Caythorpe Family Estate Marlborough Chardonnay has been awarded a Gold Medal, as well as being judged ‘Champion Chardonnay’ and prestigious ‘White Wine of Show’.
Caythorpe Family Estate director and viticulturist Simon Bishell is elated with the result. “To gain a Gold medal and inclusion in the prestigious Top 50, under $25 promotion is an achievement in itself; however to be crowned top Chardonnay and Champion White Wine of Show is almost beyond belief”
“The Chardonnay category is one of the most competitive and sought after titles, so for a small brand like ours to come out on top among many larger, highly resourced brands is really quite humbling. The exposure and instant distribution throughout more than 140 New World stores nationwide due to this accolade is invaluable”.
When asked to describe the wine, Simon says it will be a crowd pleaser for any Chardonnay fan. “Beautifully ripe white peach and citrus flavours, with a hint of salinity and toasty oak char. Stocks are limited so you will need to get in quick!”.
Simon would also like to acknowledge and thank winemaker Jeremy McKenzie and his team for their skilled influence and craft in the winery.
In addition to the New World success, this wine was recently awarded Double Gold in the 2023 NZ International Wine Show, and Gold in the 2023 Aotearoa Regional Wine show.
Available for purchase at all New World stores from October 9th for five weeks or until stocks last, or online at caythorpe.nz
